The following farms and ranches have certified that they meet Eatwild's criteria for producing grassfed meat, eggs and dairy products. Contact them directly for additional information or to buy their products:

Evermore Farm is a small, family owned and operated livestock and produce farm. We are located in Westminster, MD with easy access from Baltimore, MD; Washington, DC; Frederick, MD; and south-central Pennsylvania. Although we are not certified organic, we run our farm in a sustainable manner. We support local food systems, better stewardship of our land, and raising animals with respect. We offer seasonal shares of our produce, meats, poultry and eggs.

We raise fork-tender Dexter/Belted Galloway beef cattle, wonderfully mild tasting Katahdin lambs, and flavorful heritage and Berkshire hogs. We have fresh eggs from Rhode Island Reds and produce free-range broilers March-November. We promote an intelligent husbandry that supports a more sustainable farming and food system. Our lambs and beef are grass-fed and all our animals are raised hormone, antibiotic, and steroid free.

We follow natural sustainable farming practices, including rotational grazing. Grazing on open pasture helps with the general health of the animals: they get exercise, absorb sunshine, and breathe fresh air. They seem happier that way, and we are, too.

All of our meat is USDA inspected for quality. You have several options when purchasing our meats and poultry for your freezer. Multi-Season CSA meat, poultry and egg shares available. Check our website for price and availability.

We are a small family farm, so quantities are limited. Please call or email with any questions.

Fresh and Local CSA serves pastured meats to the DC Metro-area. We are sensitive to the needs of individuals following the recommendations of Robb Wolf and the Paleo Diet.

Fresh and Local CSA is a family farm located in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. We are located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, a few miles from Antietam Battlefield, from Harpers Ferry and from the Potomac River. We raise all natural grass finished beef, humanely raised rose veal (milk and meadow beef) and spring lamb (pregnant and lactating ewes do receive a portion of grain, but not the lambs themselves). We raise heritage hogs on pasture with supplementation with local grains and biodynamic produce. We sell pastured eggs from heritage breeds. We are also a biodynamic vegetable CSA.

We use registered Dexter cattle and Dexter/Angus cross. Our sheep are registered Katahdin sheep. We breed and raise our animals with the biodynamic methods. We use no antibiotics, no hormones, no vaccines, and no chemical wormers. We fertilize with compost and rock powders. We raise our animals on lush nutrient-dense, high BRIX grass.

We offer individual cuts, along with 1/4, 1/2, or whole. We ship. We enjoy working with restaurants. Our processing is done by a USDA certified butcher.

We are currently taking orders for June lambs.

Mount Vernon Farm, founded in 1827, utilizes holistic, sustainable, and humane practices to produce 100% Grass-Fed, Grass Finished Beef, Lamb, and Pastured Pork.

All of our animals are raised without antibiotics, growth hormones, or chemical wormers. Our pastures are not treated with any fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides. We treat our animals homeopathically to promote the health of each animal’s immune system. Our animals provide the natural fertilizer, aeration, and mowing that our pastures need. We utilize mob grazing to promote the health of the soil on Mount Vernon.

Our pigs are all purebred Tamworth, a heritage breed, and they spend their entire lives on pasture or in our no-spray apple orchard. A primary goal of the farm is to take a step back and observe how these animals naturally live and manage them accordingly.

Contact Cliff Miller or Mike Peterson for further information about our products and practices.

Our on farm store is open Fridays and Saturdays from 1-5 and we have buyers’ clubs throughout Virginia and the DC area. Please visit our website or ‘friend’ us on Facebook for updates and photos of the farm.

Nick's Organic Farm raises tender delicious angus grassfed beef, pastured chicken and turkey, and free range eggs. Our certified organic herd grazes in the fertile Frederick Valley. Since 1979, we have been committed to quality organic products and constant improvement in our farming methods. We constantly conduct on-farm research with federal, state and non-profit agencies to refine our organic practices. We cooperate with USDA's Agricultural Research Service to improve our crops and pastures and to breed and manage our herd organically so that it has maximum natural resistance to disease without the use of synthetic chemicals. We also participated in a university study documenting the nutritional advantages of grassfed beef.

Our organic beef are never fed grain, hormones or antibiotics. Our herd and flocks are moved frequently to fresh new pasture under a management intensive grazing system. We sell beef by the whole, half, quarter, eighth, and smaller quantities. An eighth will fit into the freezer compartment of a refrigerator, and many of our customers split an order with family or friends. Our beef is dry aged over two weeks, and it is cut and frozen in a USDA inspected small family owned facility. Our turkeys and chickens are fed organic grain grown on our farm and graze on our organic pastures, and receive no hormones or antibiotics. Our certified organic poultry is processed on our farm.

Available at our processor or from our farms in Buckeystown or Potomac, MD, our beef, poultry and eggs are convenient to Washington-Baltimore, Northern Virginia, and Frederick-Hagerstown customers.

Rappahannock Natural Foods Cooperative provides "Rappahannock Real-real food from real farmers."

The RNF Coop is a small farmers’ coop formed with the idea of allowing customers in the Washington DC area to shop at one reliable source for all their local and natural farm products. We stand behind our products as being locally produced and humanely processed in a local slaughter house.

The RNF Coop enables customers to shop for beef, lamb, pork, goat, chicken, eggs, produce and fruit all in one convenient place—either in our Sperryville, VA. farm store or on the web. Through the Coop, you can buy from the member farm of your choice and your purchases will be delivered to you on a weekly basis at your home or a convenient drop off point.

To accommodate different tastes, we offer a variety of products, from certified organic to plain and natural. But whatever the diet, you will find it specified in the farm section. And it is all local. (Note: In addition to their grass fed beef and lamb, the Coop also offers beef and lamb which had a supplemental diet of grain, but still roamed around freely in the pasture. These products are clearly labeled both at their farm store and online.)

Our members are mostly small farmers from Rappahannock and surrounding counties. Their families have been farming the land for untold generations, some going back as early as the 1700s. All  raise their livestock in a humane and natural way without the use of hormones or unnecessary antibiotics. They grow their produce and fruits without unnecessary and harmful pesticides. Cows roam freely in green pastures, chickens scratch for grubs and seeds around the barn, pigs stroll outside or roll in the mud as they please, and lambs dart around in the clover.

To ensure that our products are what we say they are, the Coop visits and inspects each of its members’ farms on a regular basis. We have one non-farming board member from the city who represents our customers and helps us to better understand our customers’ needs.

True Ewe Farm is a small, seasonal, grass-based sheep farm located in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, about an hour outside of Washington, DC. We produce natural, grassfed lamb and (coming in 2008) artisan farmstead sheep's milk cheeses.

We are dedicated to following sustainable and humane agricultural practices to produce high quality foods from Virginia's fine mountain meadow grasses.

Our lamb is tender, full of flavor and healthy for you. All our lambs are raised on the farm’s pasture salad – a local blend of native herbs, clover and grasses. They receive no antibiotics or growth-promoting hormones, and you never have to worry about animal byproducts in their diet.

We employ intensive rotational grazing, which allows us to fulfill the sheep's natural desire to graze on the freshest feed possible and to naturally fertilize the land.

We lamb once a year, so the supply is limited. Currently, we sell only whole lambs and half lambs. Intimidated by buying that much lamb? Don't be. Check out the “FAQ” section on our web site.

We invite you to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Eat Local! Eat True!

True Ewe farm, Kim Duty, 767 Zachary Taylor Highway, Flint Hill VA  22627. (540) 675-3387. E-mail: Kim@TrueEwe.com. Website: http://www.TrueEwe.com.

West Wind Farm produces grass-finished MOUNTAIN PASTURED BEEF. Our beautiful mountain farm is located near Grassy Meadows in Greenbrier County, WV. We market our beef in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. (See website for more inforrmation about delivery locations.)

Our Black Angus steers are finished for 5–6 months on our farm's rich grass and clover pastures, supplemented only with a natural kelp mineral mix. Our steers are processed by a respected, family-owned, custom slaughterhouse in Lewisberg, WV. We believe in managing our animals gently and our pastures organically, for the optimum health of our environment, our animals, and our consumers.

In winter and spring, MOUNTAIN PASTURED BEEF is available in 10–12 lb. mixed-cut sampler packets and/or 2-pound (8 patties) hamburger packs. In summer we invite advance orders for custom-butchered halves or split halves (quarters) for fall delivery. All our meat is USDA inspected, aged for at least 2 weeks, and flash frozen.

Whitmore Farm specializes in pasture-raised, heritage breed chickens, turkeys, sheep and goats. Our animals spend their time on pasture and produce high-quality products which can be bought on-farm and at farmers markets in the Metropolitan D.C./Baltimore area.

We also take special orders for lamb, eggs, chevon and vegetables in the spring, summer and fall.

Many of our products are certified-organic by the Maryland Department of Agriculture, and we feel our animals are treated very humanely.

Pasture-raised animals have better flavor, are more nutritious, and are better for you and our environment.

We encourage farm visits and look forward to seeing you soon!
