Eatwild was founded by Jo Robinson in 2001 to promote the benefits—to consumers, farmers, animals, and the planet—of choosing meat, eggs, and dairy products from 100% grass-fed cows, sheep, goats, and deer (“ruminant” animals), or pigs and poultry (“non-ruminants”) raised on pasture rather than in confinement.
Eatwild.com is now the #1 clearinghouse for information about pasture-based farming and features a state-by-state (plus Canada) directory of local farmers who meet Eatwild's criteria and sell their products directly to consumers. Many can also ship or deliver their products to you.
Choose healthier fruits and vegetables too. After founding Eatwild, Jo Robinson’s interests expanded to the exploration of choosing healthier fruits and vegetables. In 2012, she published Eating on the Wild Side, a book presenting 21st-century research into the heightened health benefits of specific varieties of common fruits and vegetables coupled with hands-on advice on how to shop for, grow, cook, and store these foods to maximize your nutritional benefit. It became a New York Times Bestseller and in 2016, the Academy of Culinary Nutrition recognized Jo's contributions to healthier eating by selecting her as one of their Top 50 Food Activists.
Today Eatwild promotes choosing present-day foods that approach the nutritional content of wild plants and game—our original diet. Few of us will go back to foraging in the wild for our food, but we can learn to forage in our supermarkets, farmers markets, and from local farmers to select the most nutritious and delicious foods available.
